5 Things I’m Thankful For In Year 2015

2015 is a special year for me because it is the year where I know and felt that I’m the one in charge of my life. A year full of adventures, out of comfort zone experiences, learnings, realizations and memories that will be remembered forever; unlike the past years of my life wherein I don’t even know what I want with my life, I just go with the flow.

Let me share with you the 5 things I am thankful for the year 2015:

1. The start of my own blog site

Finally had the guts to start my own blog site and a lot of my friends probably were wondering, why?

Perhaps, they do not know that I’m already bogging during my college days, but not a serious one! Just my happy thoughts, rants and about random things. Then 2015 came and I stumbled upon iamaileen.com by Aileen Adalid, a travel blogger that shared her story of how she left the corporate job in the Philippines at the age of 21 to travel the world. The way she lives as a digital nomad and how she shares her travel stories, that’s what I want too. After reading her story, I became inspired and motivated to chase my own dreams too. With that, I told myself to be brave and that there is nothing to lose when I get serious with blogging; I might help somebody else with my posts too just like Aileen. 🙂

May 2015, I bought my own domain name aurikamatias.com and started my own blog site with the help of my two blogger friends Dianne and Zek. Thank you guys for supporting me! Haha. ‘xo

2. Travel around Philippines

So 2015 is definitely the most adventurous year of my life. I may not have traveled outside the Philippines but at least, I was able to travel locally. My first hike, surf, cliff dive, spelunking and a lot more firsts happened in just one year! And I thank God for keeping me safe during those activities. We should keep in mind that the Philippines has a lot of things to offer that we do not know and haven’t experienced yet. #LoveLocal

3. The frugal life

The normal scenario: Earn -> Spend -> Save what’s left. It took me a one working year in a corporate job to realize how much I have spent a lot of my money with unnecessary things! My oh my, I feel sad whenever I think about it, but I’m glad that I’m already done with that phase and learned how to budget. Living a frugal life is not easy, especially if you cannot let go the things that are unnecessary in your life. Learn to pay yourself by saving up first before spending the extra cash.

P.S. I’m proud to say that I already have stocks and investments! Hoping for more! 🙂

4. Online and real life friends

One of the advantages of being adventurous and also a blogger is meeting like minded people! Online world made it easy to communicate with other people and letting them become a part in your circle of friends is a good side of it. I have personally met some of my online buddies and honestly, getting to know them in real life is not that awkward. Just a little chit-chat would do but still, be cautious enough to know if they are harmless or not. As for me, I’m glad that I met harmless people through online! I also have newly found friends through a common friends. 🙂

5. More about myself

A year where I get to know more about myself by reading self-development, inspirational, motivational books and applying them. They helped me to know my goals, dreams and how to handle different life situations. I see life more positive now than before and I could say that this is a new me. Of course, there are also real life experiences that made me realized these things. Just like the old saying, “You’ll never know until it happened to you.”. My life has a direction now.

It’s hard to say goodbye 2015, you’ve been oh so good to me! But it’s time to move on and I’ll just hope for more adventures and learnings with year 2016. Happy New Year!

My Life Lately: December

My Life Lately

December just started out but a lot already happened… or not, really. Looking back on what happened for the past few days, here’s the list of my life lately:

  1. Attended at the very early office Christmas Party (seriously? Christmas Party on first week of December?! Haha) and I was unexpectedly awarded as the best “Goth” costume since our theme was First Day High. Hooray for P1,000 that I got. Meh.
  2. Been meeting a lot of close friends lately to celebrate their promotions and birthdays. I’m happy for them! So if I’m not at work then I’ll be somewhere else but home.
  3. Eating a LOT! Like, I do not get full or satisfied with what I eat – may it be junk foods or real foods. Why oh why. I this normal? Or am I still normal? LOL.
  4. During my shift… of course, I’m working! 😛
  5. Yet I why do I still feel like I’m missing out a lot because of work? Hmm. Plus, I have to work on 25th and 31st of December – Night shift! SMH.
  6. Re-budgeting, jotting down expenses, random thoughts and ideas.
  7. Reading the book A Work In Progress by Connor Franta. Connor motivates and inspires me. I love you, Connor! 🙂
  8. Torn between if I should get Fujifilm XT10 or not because I want to save yet I want to have that expensive camera. The battle between wants and needs. Could just someone please give this to me as a gift?! Haha
  9. Planning on what business should I start? Where to invest?
  10. Too much time spent on Social Media.

Eww, did I just used a lot of emoticons and abbreviations? LOL. Am I just overthinking or making my life complicated? I hope not. Well, I also hope that I’m still on the right track and that I could start a business, soon! 🙂

Aurika Matias: 5 Facts About Me Vol.2

I find this day unusual, no agenda/commitments at all. 🙂 A good day to post a volume 2 of 5 Facts About Me:

  1. I hate being stuck at home… The number one reason of my blog title, Gumala with Aurika. 😛
  2. Aside from my love of being anywhere/everywhere, I love reading books. My taste in books changed just last year from dystopian to inspirational books (welcome adulthood).
  3. I have to admit that I’m a very talkative person! I kept on blabbering about random things. Just hoping that the people around don’t get irritated. Lol.
  4. Twix over Reese’s. Yes.
  5. I’m 5’1” but they think I’m smaller than that. Oh, please. 😐

5 Facts About Me Vol. 1

My Hair Style

How adventurous and creative can you style your hair?

If I were to be asked, I’ve done a lot of dyeing and cutting with my hair for the past 3 years. So here’s some of my selfies with different hair styles:

  1. Long Brown Hair

Long Brown Hair

I had a shoulder length black hair when I started working way back 2013. Months after, my hair grew that long then I decided to dye it with brown for a change.

2. Bob Cut

Bob Cut

After a year, I got irritated with my hair. LOL. I don’t know how to style my own hair so I tried bob cut which I think made me look matured compared with the longer one.

     3. Shoulder Length Ombre

After months of letting my hair grow naturally, I got bored with it again so I tried out something new… Ombre! Which I regret later on because it is high-maintenance and the end of my hair became too dry. I want to grow my hair longer and have it curled at the end but the stylists won’t let me, they said they can’t curl a bleached hair which made me move on to the next style.

    4. Pixie Cut

Pixie Cut

Say hello to my current hair style, Pixie cut! Good bye bleached hair! I like it even though I look like a (Korean) boy with this style. 🙂 I was hesitant at first because I’m not sure if I will look good with this style; I even thought about it for a week until I got brave enough to go for it. Yeah, I feel brave for doing it!

What do you think? I need feedback. Which hair style do you think suits me best? 🙂

A Goal Without A Plan Is Just A Wish

A Goal without a plan

I like talking about dreams as well as sharing my goals with like-minded people. Having goals gives me motivation and inspiration in my every day life; it also helps me to identify which path should I take. I am no longer lost, no longer wondering “What do I want with my life?”.

As the saying goes, “A goal without a plan is just a wish“.

If you want your dreams to come true, you have to come up with a plan that will take you from where you are to where you want to be. You should have a clear vision of what you want and to take necessary actions to get there.

In my previous post, I have included there the checklist of how to be create a specific goals, be it a personal goal or for your career.

Start achieving your goals in baby steps and internalize everything that you learn along the way. We have a limited time so better yet make the most of it, start achieving your goals. 🙂 Aja!

Dubsmash Presentation

Hello, everyone!

I was busy lately and most of the time I was out with my loved ones so you see, I’ve been quiet in my blog site for the past few days. 🙂

As for today, I have a good news! We had this year-end (end of fiscal year) party in office; from games up to group presentations, everything was fun! My cheeks hurt from laughing a lot. Ho-ho. So what’s the good news, eh?

Last night, I was busy editing our group’s Dubsmash video presentation for today’s event. It’s just a 4 minute video but I finished doing it around 2AM. There were in between breaks though. 😛

The good news is…. We bagged the 1st place! Congrats team! Yahoo! It’s just a simple video presentation so we’re all shocked when they announced that our team won, really unexpected. I’m very happy about it! Can you feel it? Haha.

Even though I feel shy about it, I still want to share the video with you guys. :”> Tell me what do you think about the video and enjoy!

Fitness Goal: To Be Toned

No throwback Thursday post today but rather, a #TBT (To Be Toned) post! Hahaha. Corny, I know, but whatever. 😛

So after work, I had a gym session with my chinky friend, Kathleen. Without her, I don’t know what else to do aside from using the treadmill and the bicycle. Lol.
This is just some of the exercises we did a while ago (not in order):

Arnold (shoulders) 3 sets: 10 for 1st set, 8 for 2nd set and 6 for 3rd set

Shoulders from lower side 10 reps 3 sets

Front 1 hand 12 reps 3 sets (per side)

Side 1 hand swing 12 reps x 3 sets (per side)

Side curl (straight) 30 reps x 3 sets (per side)

Side hammer 10 reps x 3 sets (per side)

Squats 10 x 3

Dumbell squats 10 x 3

Cool down (side arm)

Barbell lunge

Barbell rows

Will definitely expect a body pain tomorrow! No pain, no gain, right? 🙂
And oh, I was able to convince myself to cook tonight so I came up with this easy to cook…

Tadaaa! Egg Tuna Omelette!

My first time to cook egg tuna omelette; I’m so proud to myself that I had to share it. Haha!

So how’s your day? Hope you had a great day too!

Baguio City is also known as Summer Capital of the Philippines because of its cool climate. One of the favorite destination of locals and tourists anytime of the year.
